At first glance, this machine looks extremely bulky and heavy-duty, but there’s a clear reason behind its design. With most plate-loaded machines like this, the weight typically moves along an arc as you lift it. In the case of a leg extension, the resistance becomes heaviest at the top—when the quadriceps are fully contracted—and lighter as you lower the weight. The weight itself doesn’t change, but the load applied to the quadriceps varies throughout the movement. With this machine, however, that issue is eliminated thanks to the unique structure of the Z Series. As the machine moves, the weight travels straight up and down rather than in an arc, keeping the load on the quadriceps constant. Because of this, you don’t feel points in the movement where it suddenly becomes heavier or lighter—the resistance feels consistent throughout the entire range of motion. The machine also features a premium, high-end design. The back pad and leg pads look clean and well-finished, and of course, it uses EVOLGEAR’s signature triangular grips. Adjustable points include the backrest and the height of the shin pad. Since the machine is isolateral, you can train both legs at the same time or work each leg independently.
